Description
The elderly population is growing. With age comes diminished visual abilities. Lighting is a key factor for visual processing. This presentation will explain how lighting can create a hazard for the older person, and how lighting technologies can be used to prevent a hazard from presenting.

1. Identify the biological processes involved in visual detection.
2. Discuss the relationship between natural and artificial lighting in the visual detection process among older adults.
3. Analyze the different ways that artificial lighting technologies can be used to increase the safety of older residents within their homes.
4. Compare and contrast the different lighting factors that effect the interior environment within three common residential housing styles.
