Business Ethics Module II
Business ethics is a topic of worldwide interest today due to revelations of ethical breaches among some of the world's leading firms. What does an engineer or technical manager need to know and do to ensure ethicality in business practices? These two modules-which may be studied individually or as a comprehensive set-are designed to meet four objectives: (1) To become familiar with issues and terminology related to business ethics. (2) To consider the viewpoints of various experts in areas of business ethics. (3) To help you begin to formulate your own personal code of ethics. (4) To promote ethical behavior in business. Each module features discussions of key issues by Dr. Sauser plus interviews with two prominent organizational leaders in which they present their own beliefs about business ethics.
Module Two: Social Responsibility and Corporate Performance
In this module Dr. Sauser reviews personal, organizational and environmental factors that influence ethical decision making; explores four corporate cultures with respect to ethics in business; and discusses steps one can take to establish a strong ethical culture. The concepts of social responsibility and corporate performance are then introduced, the importance of following the law is emphasized, and best practices for business ethics are discussed. Employee theft and ethical practices in human resources management are provided as further examples. This module features interviews with leaders in the chemical and government consulting industries.
