This course is intended to assist design professionals in selecting the appropriate retaining wall for their needs. The course looks at several different types of walls and their best applications and offers guidance as to when to use certain types of walls and slopes.

Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcome 1:
Learners will be identify common types of retaining walls that are commonly used in today's construction, as well as the best applications of a cast-in-place concrete retaining wall.

Learning Outcome 2:
Learners will be able to select alternatives to cast-in-place retaining wall construction and understand the advantages to using gravity retaining walls.

Learning Outcome 3:
Learners will be able to review the different types of gravity retaining walls and explain the basic concepts of MSE systems.

Learning Outcome 4:
Learners will be able to identify site layout concerns to consider when locating a retaining wall and determine when to specify an MSE wall or MSE slope.
