Description
Central Texas has one of the nation's highest concentrations of properties at risk for wildfire. As development expands near wildlands, the threat grows. This prerecorded seminar will cover best practices for designing and maintaining landscapes and buildings to reduce ignition risks, both within and beyond the wildland-urban interface. Speakers will also share lessons learned from the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles.

Learning Outcomes
Understand the relationship of Structure/Landscape-Ignitability to Fire-Loss Risk.
Identify landscaping strategies appropriate for different defensible space zones around buildings, including ember-resistant, home protection, and reduced fuel zones, to enhance wildfire resistance and ensure safe emergency access.
Be able to specify building and infrastructure materials appropriate for use in the Wildland Urban Interface, including noncombustible and ignition-resistant options to enhance structural resilience to wildfires.
Achieve the Austin Energy Green Building rating measures, promoting design for wildfire defense.
