Description
This three-hour course explores the strategies and techniques design professionals can use to manage stormwater with trees. The course will begin with an explanation of the causes and harms of stormwater runoff, how infiltration and retention are used as solutions, and the roles of trees in reducing runoff. The course will then discuss using urban forests for stormwater management, tree selection and placement, and design failures. Lastly, the course will identify and explain advanced techniques related to green stormwater management.

Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcome 1:
Learners will be able to identify the causes of stormwater runoff and utilize retention and infiltration as stormwater management solutions.

Learning Outcome 2:
Learners will be able to explain the roles that trees play in reducing stormwater runoff and incorporate them in site designs with considerate selection and placement.

Learning Outcome 3:
Learners will be able to recognize design failures involving trees as stormwater management tools and correct the mistakes to improve stormwater management potential.

Learners will be able to adopt advanced techniques for using trees as stormwater management tools, such as tree pits and soil improvements.
