This course examines the scientific, economic and aesthetic benefits of trees, the science of healthy and mature trees, trees are design elements, trees and site requirements, trees that outlive designs, and threats to trees.

Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcome 1:
Learners will be able to describe the environmental, social, health, and economic benefits of trees.

Learning Outcome 2:
Learners will be able to discuss the biology and anatomy of trees, including the interaction between soils, roots, oxygen, and stress.

Learning Outcome 3:
Learners will be able to explain the concepts of trees as design elements and part of the infrastructure in the built environment.

Learning Outcome 4:
Learners will be able to identify and describe threats to trees, including biotic and abiotic threats and neglect. Learners will be able to identify preventative measures to maintain healthy trees and increase longevity.
