This 6.5-hour course explains the importance of trees, identifies common threats, and provides guidance on how to respond to these threats to increase the chance of survival. The course focuses on threats posed by pests, pathogens, diseases and soil problems, explains how to respond, and identifies additional available resources for design professionals.

Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcome #1:
Learners will be able to identify common pests, pathogens and diseases, including particular insects, non-native invasives and fungi, and discuss tree biology to understand their effects on trees.

Learning Outcome #2:
Learners will be able to describe how soil compaction, structure and inhabiting organisms can affect tree health and explore remedial solutions.

Learning Outcome #3:
Learners will be able to increase tree survival through considerate placement, proper establishment, and an understanding of tree biology and micro climates.
