Description
Representation and inclusion are issues in landscape architecture and other design disciplines. This session presents one pactossible path to change—educating younger students about the collective power of design. Presenters will share the purpose and outcomes of a multidisciplinary design charrette engaging middle schoolers at a Title I school.

Learning Outcomes
Identify the current state of racial diversity in college-level landscape architecture, architecture, and interior design programs across the United States.; Describe the foundational knowledge base and skills shared among multiple design disciplines, particularly those with direct impact on the built environment.; Relate the importance of collaboration among design disciplines in practice as a model to support the engagement and recruitment of youth to various design professions.; Recognize the immediate impacts among different participants following a multidisciplinary middle school design charrette and assess how the model might be utilized for continued engagement.
