Description

Presentation including the City of Fayetteville's experience with the streamside protection ordinance that was passed in 2011 along with new floodplain regulations that were approved in 2021. These ordinance help protect water quality, reduce erosion and flood losses by preserving open spaces in riparian areas. This program will also be enhanced by a recently enacted Stormwater Utility that is currently being implemented. This program will provide a more holistic approach to stormwater operation, maintenance and capital and will include water quality initiatives.

Learning Outcomes

1.Educate audience on the development and implementation of the streamside protection ordinance and the importance it has played for the preservation of riparian areas over the past decade in the City of Fayetteville.
2. Educate the audience on the development and implementation of new floodplain regulations that require potential developments to show that they are not adversely impacting properties by filling or otherwise developing floodplain areas. This includes requirements for compensatory storage to help achieve no net loss in floodplain storage.
3. Educate the audience on the development and implementation of the recently approved Stormwater Utility and how it will aide in the support of water quality in the City of Fayetteville.
