Description
This course contains three articles discussing the importance of trees in the landscape. The first article cites research concerning urban dwellers, stress and pro-social behavior that can be influenced by proper design and tree placement to define spaces. The second article discusses climate change and how landscape architects can do their part to combat this problem with proper tree planting techniques including bare root planting, tree stabilization, watering and mulching. The third article is a case study regarding the city of Madrid, Spain and their efforts to fight climate change and reverse the effects of global warming with trees.

Learning Outcomes
1.LAs will learn the value of trees in the urban landscape, the social benefits of proper design and ‘friendly networks’
2.LAs will come away with a better understanding of how trees fight climate change and the importance of proper planting to assure survival of trees
3.The amazing efforts in the city of Madrid will teach LAs about the ‘green wall’ being created for 46 miles around the city with close to a half million trees.
