Start Date

End Date

Description
Project planning is central to project management and takes place at all stages. When owners want a new facility, they put together a plan to acquire what they need. The plan is typically very simple in concept, though it may be quite complex in execution.
The plan typically consists of the following steps, including:
? Identifying the need as clearly as possible.
? Determining a budget and completion date.
? Bringing together a team that can design and build the facility, and
? Monitoring the process throughout the project’s schedule.
Additional participants in the process, such as designers, contractors, specialty contractors, and material suppliers also plan for a project. Their plans often include much greater detail but are limited in scope in order to execute their part of the project.
Project planning is essential to any task, whether it be management oriented or focused on execution in the field. The product of the plan is often a schedule. In this course, you will see that the planning process, resulting in the project schedule, is what ties all of the elements of project management together.
