This six-hour course explores the functions and benefits (environmental and landowner) of rain gardens and dives deep into their siting, sizing, design, plant selection, amenities and maintenance.

Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcome 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the underlying hydrology of rain gardens and explain what a rain garden is and what it does and does not do.

Learning Outcome 2:
Learners will be able to describe how to size a rain garden by determining its proximity to structures and calculating the amount of water to be drained.

Learning Outcome 3:
Learners will be able to discuss rain garden plant selection and the applications and benefits of different types of grasses, sedges, trees, shrubs, flowers and other pollinator-friendly plants.

Learning Outcome 4:
Learners will be able to identify opportunities to add amenities to rain gardens, such as paths, walkways, fences, benches and other landscape features.
