Description
What role can a trail guidebook play in sharing more diverse and inclusive histories of our national trails? This session introduces two projects that are now underway to create the next generation of trail guidebooks: (1) An Indigenous Hiking Guide for the New England Trail; and (2) A People’s Guide to the Pacific Crest Trail. The presentations will demonstrate how conventional trail guidebooks privilege certain kinds of knowledge and trail experiences, and then we will share tips for using the guidebook’s maps, photos, and text to capture more diverse stories.
