BUG - Understanding the IES Luminaire Classification System

Start Date

End Date

Description
This course will cover basic fundamentals of outdoor lighting design criteria. Topics will focus on how and why the lighting industry's design ratings have transitioned from the legacy terminology to the IES Luminaire Classification System (LCS) that defines the distribution of light into 10 zones. These zones combine to produce a Backlight, Uplight and Glare (BUG) rating used to evaluate optical performance. We will also discuss how the BUG rating system has been integrated into the MLO (Model Lighting Ordinance) and how to properly integrate it into your own lighting plan to meet the requirements of your local code/ordinance.
