Description
This six-hour course examines the applications, design, and installation of permeable pavements. The course will focus on exploring the environmental impacts of paved surfaces as well as the characteristics, cost/benefit analysis, and the installation and maintenance of each type of permeable material. Compliance with building code and sustainable building standards will also be addressed.

Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcome 1:
Learners will be able to examine the water cycle, explain the benefits of water infiltration, and identify opportunities to promote water infiltration.

Learning Outcome 2:
Learners will be able to describe the environmental effects of paved surfaces and identify environmental issues associated with impervious surfaces.

Learning Outcome 3:
Learners will be able to define characteristics of various porous asphalt and concrete, the associated costs, and effective installation and maintenance.

Learning Outcome 4:
Learners will be able to examine compliance with building codes and understand the treatment of material under sustainable standards.
