This course comprehensively describes the use and design of different typical metal elements in the hardscape, as well as their benefit to the health, safety and welfare of the people that use them. Participants will learn practical lessons and considerations when working with different manufacturers in the process of designing a variety of items including metallurgy/compatibility, finish and material options, ADA requirements, and costing of a range of iterations of custom work.

                        1.	Identify and understand salient properties and proper applications of typical Iron alloys, Aluminum alloys, Bronze alloys and Stainless steel alloys in the hardscape.
2.	Analyze different mounting methods for tree grate, manhole rings, catch basin and trench frames, cast medallions, bollards, benches and bike racks into varying hardscape materials, and apply this knowledge in practice of specification to solve site specific issues.
3.	Develop an understanding of typical methods of manufacture for pattern making, sand casting, waterjet/lasercut, fabricated (welded) and apply this knowledge in design of new and custom items on an ongoing, project specific basis.
