This two-hour course explores the principles and requirements surrounding barrier-free design in outdoor spaces. The course explores a brief history of anti-discrimination in design, focuses on the application of accessibility codes and standards to specific projects, and identifies common violations.

Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcome 1:
Learners will be able to explore the historical development of anti-discrimination laws and their impact on accessibility requirements for outdoor spaces.

Learning Outcome 2:
Learners will be able to determine which accessibility codes and regulations apply to a project, including the ADA, PROWAG, Fair Housing Accessibility Guidelines, and state/local building codes.

Learning Outcome 3:
Learners will be able to identify common accessibility violations related to exterior elements for site arrival points and accessible routes, and analyze strategies for addressing and mitigating these violations.

Learning Outcome 4:
Learners will be able to discuss emerging trends and potential future developments in accessibility requirements for outdoor spaces.
