Description
On the surface, this session will walk participants through a healing garden project, illustrating various principles and guidelines for approaching the design of therapeutic landscapes. The project opened in 2016 and has become near and dear to the presenter/designer, and to many others in the community, but it is slated to be removed to make way for a 10-story addition.

At a deeper level, examples like this show the fragility and impermanence of many designed landscapes, especially when compared to buildings. There can be a profound sense of loss when landscapes are demolished that may sever our attachment to place, our ties to nature, our connections to memories, and in this case, to one’s personal creative work. What does it take for a landscape to survive?
