Description
This course examines the principles amd practice of transforming tradtional dry-bottom basins into naturalized basins that improve water quality and provide a host of environmental benefits. Naturalizing stormwater detention and retention basins improve water quality, promote wildlife habitat, require less maintenance than dry bottom basins, increase the aesthetic quality of the basin, and promote native vegetation.

Learners will be able to explain the principles of naturalization of stormwater detention and retention basins and explain why it is important.

Learners will be able to describe how to change the size and shape of detention basins as part of the naturalization effort, and they will be able to explain what benefits this may produce.

Learners will be able to describe how to change inlet and outflow of detention basins as part of the naturalization effort, and they will be able to explain what benefits this may produce.

Learners will be able to describe how to improve basin soils and select native plantings can promote diffusion and infiltration of stormwater.
