Description

Phytotechnology is a set of technologies that is using the nature of certain types of plants to achieve environmental remediation goals.This course will cover several different types of phytotechnologies, review their functions, and explore the different reasons for using them. This course will also highlight the advantages and the limitations of different types of phytotechnology through the review of research and case studies.

There are many reasons to use plants: for stabilizing soils to prevent erosion; to provide biomass; to clean up the polluted environments in which they reside; and as a low impact design technique. Each of these uses will be discussed.
