Description
This course explains the benefits and planning involved in establishing agricultural practices in urban areas, including those for community gardens, edible landscaping, livestock and beekeeping. Urban areas oftentimes offer little in the way of green spaces and distance people from nature and food sources. By bringing agriculture to the people, they can reconnect with natural beauty and fresh food in a sustainable manner. This practice is particulary beneficial in what has become known a fresh food deserts.

Learners will be able to explain whathow urban agriculture is defined and what are its costs and benefits.

Learners will be able to discuss the elements of land use planning for urban agriculture and how it can contribute to economic development goals.

Learners will be able to identify and describe the common types of urban agriculture, including community gardens, edible landscaping and livestock/bee-keeping.

Learners will be able to describe how urban agriculture builds resiliency into community-based food systems and food distribution.
