Industrial Stormwater: Defining, Monitoring, and Managing Water under NPDES

Description
Facilities that are subject to the industrial stormwater regulations such as the NPDES Multi-Sector General Permit
(MSGP) include a broad range of facilities. Since the early 1990’s, industrial facilities have learned to identify the
primary and secondary SIC codes and industrial activities that describe operations at their sites. They have
developed and implemented stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWP3s). But, what happens when an industrial
facility generates water that is not eligible to discharge under the MSGP? Learn to identify stormwater versus nonstormwater
from common industrial practices. Explore other discharge and disposal scenarios, including alternative
NPDES permit coverage, discharges to sanitary sewer systems – with and without pretreatment. Learn more about
“categorical effluent limitations”, “benchmark levels” and the future of water quality corrective actions under
NPDES stormwater regulations in light of the proposed EPA MSGP. The time to understand your industrial
stormwater and the implications of your permitting scenario

Learning Outcomes
What is industrial stormwater authorized to discharge under the MSGP (and what is it not)? What types of common industrial activities can generate a non-stormwater flow? What is the difference between a CEL and a Benchmark and why does it matter in your permitting and compliance strategy?
