Description
This session explores a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding a landscape using interpretative mapping (of climate, topography, human intervention). The session focuses on a site in Portugal which offers to be an excellent historical and biological archive. The site, Tourega Valverde, contains a contemporary village, university campus, architectonic and archaeological heritages of Neolithic and bronze age as well as Roman era, watercourses, dams and traditional landscape of montado and silvopasture. This process is relevant for managing heritage sites, especially when there is scope for historic preservation and revenue generation from tourism while maintaining environmental sustainability.
