Description
The City of Charlotte is known and beloved for being urban in the midst of trees. A visionary goal of 50% tree canopy by 2050 was set, but as a rapidly growing city, it was soon evident that it would be difficult to gain tree canopy. The Tree Canopy Preservation Program innovated and worked with the Planning Department's Placemaking program to counteract the concern by planting trees in public spaces in Charlotte's Urban Environment through the Urban Arboretum Trail. This session brings together work of arborists and landscape architects to tackle a difficult situation and advance our goals in a changing climate.
