Description
This course examines the goals of pavement design, including smootheness, stability, and longevity. It explores the commercial design specific elements for parking lots, driveways, shared-use areas, sidewalks, paths and walkways. It examines the difference between the design and installation of flexible pavement and rigid pavement, and it covers the maintenance and rehabilitation processes of pavement.

Learning Outcomes
Learners will be able to identify the principle goals of pavement design, including smooth and stabile surfaces with a long service life.

Learners will be able to identify the application of flexible pavements, and they will be able to discuss necessary soil support and subsurface preparation, material content and mixture, appropriate thickness requirement. They will also be describe how to prepare and overlay existing pavement.

Learners will be able to identify the application of rigid pavements, and they will be able to discuss necessary soil support and subsurface preparation, material content and mixture, appropriate thickness requirement. They will also be describe how to prepare and overlay existing pavement.

Learners will be able to discuss the sustainability of pervious pavements

Learners will be able to identify and describe design specific elements for commercial site parking lots, including parking lots, driveways, shared-use areas, sidewalks, paths, and walkways.

Learners will be able to explain the goals and processes of pavement maintenance and rehabilitation to extend longevity and the keep surfaces smooth and safe for users.
