Description
Shock pads and underlayments are now being specified and installed under hundreds of synthetic turf fields annually in North America. The products and installation methods for these pads have changed and improved dramatically making shock pads more cost effective and easier to install. This course will introduce designers to the state of the art in available products and related specification and design considerations.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand characteristics of shock pads/ underlayments and their interaction with other synthetic turf components
2. Review test methods to quantify fundamental attributes of turf systems and how shock pads contribute to system performance. Test methods to include force reduction, gmax, vertical deformation and energy restitution.
3. Review design, installation, and maintenance considerations for synthetic turf systems which include shock pads as part of the synthetic turf system.
