Description
Interlocking concrete pavements are appropriate for any application that requires paving, and durable, creative interlock begins with clear and technically accurate specifications. This presentation moves through every section of ICPI “Tech Spec 9: Guide Specification for the Construction of Interlocking Concrete Pavement” to show how quality assurance is achieved through specifications.

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate why interlocking concrete pavements create strong, stable surfaces for pedestrian and vehicular traffic by examining their components to show how they work together to create interlock.
Illustrate why interlocking concrete pavements can create smooth surfaces without tripping hazards when recommended tolerances on lippage, joint size tolerances and the correct edge restraints are installed.
Identify the most effective and appropriate interlocking concrete pavement patterns and joint widths that support pedestrian, vehicular, industrial, port and aircraft uses safely.
Evaluate a project site and determine the factors that may affect the structural performance, durability and safety of an interlocking pavement installation by assessing the kind of base required and the type, strength and thickness of all available paving materials.
Specify interlocking concrete pavements and verify critical aspects of their construction from submittals to execution and then to final inspection.
