Leading in LA – A CEC EPIC Demonstration Project for Deep Energy Retrofits

Start Date

End Date

Description
Leading in LA is a major research project, led by New Buildings Institute, which assesses energy-savings opportunities on retrofit measures including lighting, controls, automated redirecting window treatment, and minor HVAC adjustments. The project measures baseline and retrofit energy use, including occupancy comfort evaluations. Once complete, the project will provide detailed energy profiles and M&V (Measurement & Verification) 2.0 results for the retrofit. The research will also make recommendations based on building results and modelling for greater energy efficiency and broader retrofit applications.

Learning Outcomes
1)Review conditions of existing lighting and controls systems in buildings and how that may impact the retrofit opportunities.
2)Learn approaches to achieve the best integration of LED lighting and ALCS retrofit systems into existing building stock.
3)Hear how automated blinds/shades may fit into an energy retrofit strategy.
4)Analyze a research project with an intensive M&V plan that evaluates retrofit success for the benefit of the larger building industry.
