Compost in Various Applications
In order to understand how and why compost should play such an important role in soil specifications, we teach participants about compost in a general sense and work through technical information. We use this general and technical information to compare to other soil amendments. Once everyone has a clear understanding of how compost works we turn to project examples to apply that knowledge to the field. We can then focus on specific application rates and how these applications will affect the soils on a chemical/biological/physical standpoint. This will help participants learn how to best incorporate compost into their projects in order to ensure project success!

1. Compost General Info- how do you measure quality? What does each of those measurements mean?
2. Comparing amendments- how does compost compare to common soil amendments? What do you lose/gain when you choose one? Technical differences examined though testing sheet.
3. How does compost fit in to various types of projects? How does this affect the chemical/biological/physical structure of each project? How should compost be applied in various applications to achieve the aesthetic, environmental, and economic goals for your project?
