Description
Understanding the environmental, social and economic benefits of sustainable landscapes is essential for designers, developers, investors, and policymakers who influence land development and want better results. This session introduces and explores the concept of landscape performance and why it is critical to achieving sustainability and reaching key decision-makers. The Landscape Architecture Foundation will present an overview of the Landscape Performance Series, an online, interactive set of resources to help evaluate performance, show value and make the case for sustainable landscape solutions. Learn how the Case Study Briefs, Benefits Toolkit, Fast Facts, and Scholarly Works can be used to evaluate and demonstrate the impact of projects and how you can be part of this growing online resource. The Landscape Architecture Foundation will build upon the introduction to the concept of landscape performance with a presentation on how to determine what to measure by factoring in project goals, design intent, and expected outcomes. Guidelines on how to make metrics for evaluating performance defensible will be addressed. Examples of how to quantify landscape performance benefits based on determining design parameters, using online calculators, and obtaining actual measurements will also be shared. The workshop concludes with guided group work to identify potential benefits and metrics for specific, local projects. Come learn the how-to's of getting your own performance-based research project off the ground!
