This course explores the interrelationship between tree roots and soil over time. Florida has special conditions that do not allow for the one size fits all solution to tree planting, tree maintenance and tree relocation. Learn from the expertise and research done by Florida’s own Dr. Ed Gilman.

Learning Outcomes
Attendees will learn the interrelationship between roots and soils: issues of urban planting; Attendees will learn how much soil is actually needed to bring a tree to maturity in the built environment; Attendees will grasp an understanding of various soil conditions across the state and how it applies to tree planting; Attendees will understand how to specify trees for the best root development; Attendees will understand options to rectifying situations of poor root development, both in the nursery situation and out in existing landscapes.
