Description
The presentation will cover the organization of specifications and how the numeric designations have meaning. It will explain the relationship between special provisions and specifications and how these work together to provide designer’s contract documents that guide contractors to build projects consistent with the designer’s intent. The presentation will provide guidance on the production of construction specifications and drawings conforming with ODOT standards. In addition, the presentation will provide ODOTs requirements for roadside design wherein the Designer’s aesthetics, the taxpayer’s money and the traveling public’s safety are blended into a cohesive design.

Learning Outcomes
1) The presentation will show how to edit special provisions in the ODOT format, including the required grammar, sentence structure and writing techniques.
2) The presentation will cover mandatory ODOT drafting standards and graphic conventions for the production of construction drawings and details.
3) The presentation will discuss the ODOT culture of safety and identify several areas where designers can avoid introducing hazards and where thoughtful design can enhance the safety and the experience of travelers.
