Description
City Habitats is a public-private partnership that brings together city and state government agencies, research institutions, non-profits, and the business community to advocate for natural solutions to treating stormwater runoff so that we can all thrive in our urban environment. This partnership's work is driven by Outside Our Doors, a report that presents 40 years of peer reviewed research demonstrating how nature provides significant positive impacts to human health and well-being, cohesive communities, and thriving economies. City Habitats is centered on the understanding that through adding nature to cities and towns, we can treat polluted runoff and provide communities with many other benefits nature provides. Dr. Kathleen Wolf will present about the research summarized in Outside Our Doors, highlight how this research is applicable to cities across the globe, and describe the economic consequences. Chris Hilton will focus on how City Habitats is taking a regional approach to treating stormwater runoff and using Outside Our Doors research to advocate for increasing nature in Puget Sound cities and towns. Dr. Sean Watts will provide on-the-ground examples of collaborating with community to design green infrastructure and open space projects that yield multiple benefits."
