Description
This presentation, given by MVVA's Alec Spangler, will describe key moments in the design and construction of the Max Family Garden (now part of Brooklyn Bridge Park) for St. Ann's Warehouse. The project is small, easy to visit, and involves numerous elements that require improvisation and close collaboration with the client and contractors. These qualities make it a useful case study for methods of design, documentation, and communication outside the bounds of a conventional drawing set. The presentation will address best practices in communicating design ideas for construction, when they involve variability and uncertainty; achieving a design workflow with found/irregular materials; and maximizing accessible locations to design on-site.
