Repair Work: Fixing, Drawing, and Negotiating Design

Start Date

End Date

Description
GGN uses hand drawing/drafting extensively in their work, from concept through construction detailing. Hand drawing automatically translates 3D ideas into 2D display and/or abstraction, in a clear way for many others to understand. It enables them to make weird, broad, and/or charismatic cartoons, crucial to communicate overarching ideas. Construction detailing is the culmination – and only lasting outcome – of design. Details are distinctive when designers are forced to figure out how to execute a distinctive concept or “imagined geology.” Technical detailing is where designers are put to the most important test – keeping focused on the concept/goal while refining and inventing the most beautiful, buildable, and sound details.
