Description
Communities change continuously. If their parks and outdoor spaces do not change in parallel there will be mismatches between societal needs and what our parks offer. We will review trends that affect outdoor spaces, look at the importance of various Park and Recreation survey results and new methods to increase park relevance in communities. In addition we will discuss ways to enhance communication regarding the value of each park or open space project.

Learning Outcomes
1. Attendees will learn the major trends that change communities and the perceived value of outdoor spaces.
2. Attendees will be able to discuss ways to connect an outdoor space to a community’s needs.
3. Attendees will learn and understand positioning theory and how this theory can help change how any organization, including parks and recreation professionals, landscape architects and architects, is perceived.
4. Attendees with learn how to develop and control the discussion about the value of their project(s).
