Description
This is a 7.0 hour live lecture presentation with the instructors and students together in the same room. It will be conducted in a handicap-accessible conference room with ample seating space and writing surface for all attendees. Bound written materials, authored by the faculty, will be distributed to all participants at the program. Attendance will be monitored and reported to LA CES.

This course covers walking, biking and related social trends, improving conditions for walking and biking routes, designing for walkability and bikeability, redesigning intersections for walking and biking conditions, the need for community involvement, safe routes to school, and implementing a walk/bike plan.

Learning Outcomes
Learners will be able to discuss current trends in public walking and biking, safety, public health, and walk/bike path user profiles and needs.

Learners will be able to identify approaches to improving walk/bike path user safety, including those for facilities and intersections.

Learners will be able to describe strategies for developing Safe Routes to School (SRTS) in their community, including the application of the 5 E's (engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation and planning), and they'll be able to discuss strategies for developing, funding and implementing a SRTS plan.

Learners will be able to assist in the implementation of a walk/bike plan, including developing effective short and long-term approaches, utilizing effective plan language and setting SMART goals, securing funding, and applying tactical urbanism and 5 E's principles.
