Description
This presentation showcases the stormwater management system of a park that was that was finished construction in early spring 2015 in NE Washington DC. The Park is a recipient of a Best Urban BMP in the Bay Award contest (BUBBA) award under the “Best BMP in a Series” category.

The park is on land owned by a private developer and the improvements were instigated to help with the overall quality of the neighborhood. DDOE (District Department of the Environment) provided $300,000 in grant funding based on the innovative stormwater design. DC Greenworks, a non-profit, provided on site job training for DC residents during the installation of the permeable paver system. The project also qualifies for the new DC SRC (Stormwater Retention Credit trading program).

The stormwater management design takes road surface runoff through multiple curb cuts and treats it through a series of permeable pavement and bioretention BMP’s before ultimately overflowing into an inlet that connects back to the public closed pipe system.
