Taming Illinois Energy Code: Best Practices and Use of SSL

Start Date

End Date

Description
Illinois' latest Energy Efficiency code, based on IECC 2012 and ASHRAE/IES 90.1 2010, has been in force since Jan. 1, 2014. Many people are familiar with the new code and are frustrated and perplexed by new rules and lower lighting power densities (LPD). You can’t change the code, but you can learn best practices to compliance without compromising design and performance.

Significant changes to the latest ASHRAE/ IES 90.1 and IECC will influence how you design your next project. In this session you will learn skills to maximize your advantages when faced with code compliance.

Items to be explored include:
* Using LED versus Metal halide, Halogen or Fluorescent for compliance
* The best tract to compliance for your project
* Key components of the code that affect deign compliance
* A glimpse of what to expect come next code cycle

Find out how to best address today’s compliance as well as get a glimpse of what may come next.

Learning Outcomes
1) Determine and apply the path for compliance (IECC or ASHRAE 90.1) best suited to your project.
2) Understand and apply code compliance procedures that provide maximum LPD (lighting power density) and allow your designs to meet compliance with minimal compromise.
3) Learn the benefits of LED efficiencies and how these benefits can help your design to meet code compliance without sacrificing other design objectives.
4) Examine potential lighting efficiency changes (including reduced LPDs) that could occur in the next code cycle.
